WHO AM I?

My name is Konstantinos Mantalovas and I am originally from Greece; you guessed right! I acquired my bachelor’s and master’s degree in Civil Engineering in the section of Transportation, Transportation Infrastructure, Project Management and Development from the “Aristotle University of Thessaloniki” (2014). Served the compulsory army service in Athens, Greece and then completed another MSc in Transportation Infrastructure Engineering – Sustainable Highways in the University of Nottingham (2017). I am currently working as a Marie Curie early stage researcher in the University of Palermo on the ESR10 project of the SMARTI ETN program.

MY PROJECT

“LCSA4Transport” “Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment for Transport Infrastructures”

We live in a time of rapid technological development and significant interest in sustainability. It is, therefore, imperative to have tools available for the sustainability assessment of existing and new technologies. This is recognised by the European Commission that awarded two projects such as PROSUITE (www.prosuite.org), that developed a 5-pillar framework based on Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment technique and supported by a freeware Decision Support System developed with the consultancy of GreenDelta.

Within “LCSA4TRANSPORT” the fellow will take advantage of the experience from UNIPA, UNOTT and GreenDelta in order to develop a Circular Life Cycle Management Framework (Guidelines) and eventually embed it into the sustainability assessment SUPER ITN tool (www.superitn.eu) and try:

  • To broad this framework by integrating it with the principles of circular economy and by using the outcomes of the PROSUITE project.
  • To carry out the sustainability assessment of the technologies developed in other SMARTI projects.

UNIPA will provide expertise with asset management, life cycle costing and railway engineering. The partnership with strategic partners will provide:
