Thematic Training weeks

The consortium will combine and share expertise to offer advanced scientific training structured into network-wide thematic taught modules. The Coordination has identified at least 6 thematic training weeks that will see the participation of worldwide renown experts providing fellows with specialist lectures

 

Basic skills scientific and complementary

The training programme will begin with an introductory week at the begin of the programme where each principal supervisor will provide an introduction to the project they are supervising and researchers will be: provided with basic training both scientific and complementary

Sustainable infrastructures

Course title: “Advanced methods for environmental and economic performance assessment of pavements”

Specialist lecturer: Prof. John Harvey (UC Davis, USA)

Multi-functional infrastructures

Course title: “Identifying and fulfilling the requirements of future road transportation networks”

Specialist lecturer: Dr. Nicolas Hautiere (IFSTTAR, France)

Automated infrastructures

Course title: “Online and onboard monitoring for safety and sustainability of rail infrastructure”

Specialist lecturer: Prof. Yiqing Ni (Honk Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong)

Resilient infrastructures

Course title: “Resiliency of Transport Infrastructures”

Specialist lecturer: Prof. Mark Stewart (University of Newcastle, Australia)

Business and Entrepreneurship

Specific modules to support job creation such as business, entrepreneurship, communication, project management and other transferrable skills will enrich the training programme.

Communication skills

  • Dissemination and Outreach seminar are an opportunity for ESRs to present their on-going research projects to all other the participants of the training weeks and beyond.
  • Industry seminar  will allow ESRs to receive examples from the non-academic world from partners from the Industry sector with presentations on relevant road, railway and airport infrastructure case studies, business management and/or site visits.
  • Public engagement skills: All researchers will be provided with courses such as  “The Science Outreach Programme (SOP): Public Understanding of Science – Communication Skills for Researchers” at UNOTT. This course aims at training ESRs in communication and outreach skills, and then encourage them to share their scientific knowledge and research experience with local schools.
  • The complementary skills training will be completed through specific additional network-wide training workshops that will be held by UNOTT and tailored with the help of the Graduate School.
  • Web-based tools for researchers: these training will teach researchers to build and manage their digital profile that will possibly accompany them in the rest of their career. Other purpose of this training is to teach fellows to work and disseminate through the internet in a collaborative research efforts by the use of Social networks and collaborative tools
